Roadways & Transit

The Acadiana Planning Commission has prioritized regional transportation infrastructure. Because the Interstate and rail systems in the region are centered on Lafayette as a hub city, connectivity is critical for those who live outside the hub — something APC can help to achieve by directing funds toward crucial road projects. We are also evaluating alternate modes of transportation, including public transit options.

APC also coordinates the implementation of current state initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure safety and behavioral objectives exhibited among vehicle occupants.

Transit Priorities

At the center of the urbanized area lies the City of Lafayette’s Rosa Parks Multi-Modal Transportation Center, the inner-city transit hub. Nearly 90 percent of the population utilizes single vehicles as the primary mode of transportation. The remaining residents rely on a combination of transportation modes, including the fixed route transit service, Lafayette Transit System (LTS). LTS is the only mass transit service within the MPO area. Rosa Parks Transportation Center is a central stop for alternative inter-city transportation modes such as Greyhound and Amtrak. These service providers are steps away from the LTS bus stop bays.

Coordinated Human Services Transportation is a supplementary transit service that aims to provide individualized rides for specific populations, including the disabled, veterans, and other individuals who need assistance. Fixed routes or timetables do not typically define services.
